Incident Three Probert's Poor Anticipation
In the 29', Newcastle (black/white) collect possession of the ball from their penalty area and look to surge forward. Here are the freeze frames:
It was interesting listening to the BBC commentator Martin Tyler during this incident. Tyler was talking about Newcastle central defender Fabricio Coloccini's surging attacking run being halted at the centre circle, and therefore resulting in Coloccini being out of position. How ironic that from a referee's point of view, Probert was also putting himself in all sorts of problems with his positioning! Probert got in the way of the players again. Fortunately for him, there was a foul right in front of him so that he could whistle to stop play ... and give him time to re-orientate himself.
Incident Four Probert's Poor Anticipation Again
In the 45'+3', Newcastle (black/white) collect possession of the ball outside their penalty area and look to surge forward. Here are the freeze frames:
So that's three times in the first half we have seen Lee Probert make the same mistake. That is, Probert's lack of anticipation during a team's surge forward from their own defensive third (i.e. Incidents One, Three and Four) left Probert in a pickle. This is very poor from a professional Referee.
