EAR Makes Good Call

Ireland captain Damien Duff (white 11) clears the ball

The following incident occurred during the Euro 2012 final group match between Italy and Ireland on Monday 18 June 2012. The match finished 2—0. There were 7 YCs (including RC for a 2nd caution).

In the 35' from an Italy (blue) corner kick, the ball is headed past Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given (black 1) and into the goal. It is then kicked out by Ireland captain Damien Duff (white 11). Here are the freeze frames:

Apparently, EAR1 Hüseyin Göçek sees the whole of the ball cross the line

Referee Cüneyt Cakir receives feedback from his team and awards a goal (albeit using a non-standard signal):

Give credit where credit is due ... (watch this space) !!

The match officials were:
Referee: Cüneyt Çakır (TUR)
Assistant referees: Bahattin Duran (TUR), Tarik Ongun (TUR)
Fourth official: Viktor Shvetsov (UKR)
Additional assistant referees: Hüseyin Göçek (TUR), Bülent Yıldırım (TUR)

Note: Players Shirt Swapping
Italy attacker Mario Balotelli, who scored Italy's second goal exchanges jerseys with Ireland keeper Shay Given

Still no sight of referees swapping shirts with players!
